Welcome to Alice Park

Welcome to Alice Park – where we want you to come on down, relax and ‘Enjoy Life!’ That’s what its all about. Take time out from the day-to-day hassles and stresses of this modern world, and come and chill with us in our beautiful, relaxing 8-acre park.alice park

Situated on the eastern edge of Bath at the junction of the A4/A46, Alice Park was officially opened on May 28th 1938 and ‘presented for the use of children and the general public’ by Herbert Montgomery MacVicar – or HMV – in memory of his wife Alice. Over the last few years, there have been some great positive changes, and we think they would both be delighted with whats on offer here now.

Since 2008, Tony and Russ have been looking after the cafe and encouraging people to use the amazing stuff we have here. So here’s a picture of them, bless.

So what will you find here? A safe and secure childrens play area, where it’s back to basics and fresh air – with swings, sandpit and giant spider to amuse them for hours on end. In May 2011, we opened up a brand new bit of play equipment, featuring a slide, climbing net, climbing wall and some 20 activities – several at low level for inclusive play. There is also a permanent table tennis table (and you can hire bats and balls from the cafe) and a basketball hoop, with regular competitions to see just how far away you can be and still score!

In July 2011 we opened the boules piste, and we are delighted with our lovely Community Garden. You should see the size of my radishes!

Alice Park is also a haven for dog walkers, with well behaved canines fully welcome off lead for masses of healthy exercise. And there is often a dog treat available in the cafe for canine coffeurs of coffee.

Then of course we have six tennis courts and our own highly skilled tennis couch – sorry, coach – who runs regular courses for ladies, adults, kids, beginners and those a bit better than most. Check him; he did take a couple of games off Andy Murray when they were both teenagers! Have a look at the sports pages on this site for more details of our teams, coaching and social events!

And how about our superb Café? We are open all year – even in the depths of winter.  Normally we are open from 9.30am until it gets dark, or everyone has gone home, even on those cold wet days when you would rather be at home.  But the kids/dogs need some fresh air, so come on down.

It’s also important to understand our ethics. We don’t believe that ‘fairtrade’, ‘organic’ and ‘local’ should be used as the latest marketing hype, or as quirky optional extras; we believe this should be the norm. Which is why if it ain’t Fairtrade, Local or Organic, we wont sell it. Simple. So when you sit down, read the paper, access the internet or just listen to some jazz or funky soul and enjoy – really enjoy – a coffee with us, know that you are doing your bit too. Life tastes better already, doesn’t it?

Anything else? Well, there is loads more detail on this website – just have a look around and make sure you keep checking back – this new site will be regularly updated.  Oh, and we also have a football team – Alice Park Rangers!

There are also plenty of family based events throughout the year, so sign up and become a member and get all the information on the Park you could possibly want!  As a member, you get to know all about the things and events coming up, and crazy occasional free coffees too.  Especially on your birthday! Just look at the bit on the top right of your screen right now, and sign up. We only want basic info, and won’t use it for anything wierd. Or give it to anyone else.  I promise.

So if you are looking for a great park to bring the kids, enjoy some truly amazing coffee, check the free wifi and just ‘chillax’, then make a date here at Alice Park – and don’t forget on Sundays from April we have live soul and jazz dj’s to entertain you!

See you soon.
